Pier 25 Skatepark, NYC - Officially Open (2010)

It's official, the new Pier 25 skatepark (Tribeca, NYC) has opened to the public as of last Thursday (11/4/2010). If you want a preview of the new park or directions visit our first Pier 25 post.

Autumn Bowl Update - Closed November 1st (2010)

It's been about two months since our last Autumn Bowl update and we've been skating it as much as possible ever since. Unfortunately the time has come: This weekend will be the last chance keyholders have to skate it - straight from Dave Mimms (owner of Autumn skateshop) himself. Over twenty keyholders recently dropped out (not surprising with all the new bowls/parks in New York these days) halting any future plans to start renting another location.

As for the bowl itself...  it will be transported to Chicago (thankfully not destroyed) and reconstructed inside a skatepark where the last-remaining keyholders can visit and skate it for free! Keyholders should expect an email from Dave sometime soon explaining everything in further detail.

I will never forget walking down that alley (on our way to the first keyholder meeting) and eventually entering one of the coolest indoor skate spots in New York ever! We spent many days and nights there (hot & cold), met so many awesome people and watched some of the raddest skating go down. Gnarliest bathroom, crazy parties, countless stereos, smoke, beers, bricks, dust and 100% skateboarding. A huge THANK YOU to Dave, Vander, Pat, Seth, Rob and all the keholders who helped build and keep the Autumn Bowl alive/maintained for the past seven years!

R.I.P. Special Sauce - The Ending Of An Era (2010)

Special Sauce (Bayshore, NY), one of Long Island's staple skate shops founded by Pete Szczebak and Chris Santucci back in 1994 is closing today. Long Island skateboarders, DJ's, surfers, snowboarders, graph kids and b-boys would consider this the ending of an era. R.I.P. Sauce, we thank you for everything you've done for New York skateboarding/skateboarders, we will remember you forever!

Danny Supa Moves To BLVD (2010)

Looks like Danny Supa left Stereo and is now riding for BLVD (Danny Montoya & Rob Gonzalez). Transworld has a newsHIT interview with Danny focusing on the transition which also includes the new BLVD welcome clip.

Pier 25 Skate Park aka North Moore (2010)

NYC is getting another park on the West Side... this time in Tribeca, specifically Pier 25 (West Side Highway at North Moore Street). According to the Hudson River Park Trust the park will open in Fall, 2010. Site Design Group has some pics here, California Skate Park has more pics here.

Site Update - We Added Some Links (2010)

Now that Fall has arrived, we decided to update our sections with some new links (45 to be exact). NYSB Goods has (6) new links, NYSB Places has (14) new links, NYSB Websites has (16) more links and NYSB Media has (9) new links... you get the idea. That should keep everyone busy for another few months. New site design is on its way!

Introducing Belief Skateshop in Astoria - Queens, NY (2010)

While on our way to skate the new Astoria skate park we decided to stop over at the new Belief skateshop (just a few blocks away). We shot a few photos to give you a little peek at what they have in-stock so far. Belief is located at 29-20B 23rd Avenue which is half a block from the Ditmars Blvd stop on the (N) train.

Northport/Veterans Skate Park - Official Info (2010)

The Town of Huntington sent us an official letter outlining the opening, cost and rules for their new concrete skatepark - Veterans Skatepark.

The Facts: 
• The park is not open yet as they still have a few tasks to complete such as fencing, concrete work, striping the parking lot and hydro seeding for the grass.
• The grand opening is targeted for 9/20/2010 (weather permitting).
• Town of Huntington residents under 17 pay $10 for a 2-year recreation card.
• Town of Huntington residents over 18 pay $20 for a 2-year recreation card.
• Non-residents pay $50 for a 1-year recreation card.
• Town of Huntington residents without a card will pay $5 per day.
• Non-residents without a card will pay $10 per day.
• The park will be open year-round (weather permitting).
• Weekdays the park is open 12PM - Dark.
• Weekends the park is open 10AM - Dark.
• Helmets are required, other protective equipment strongly advised.

Veteran's Skatepark Pics - Huntington, NY (2010)

We got some pics from the restricted Veterans Skatepark a.k.a. Northport Park (Huntington, NY). The park is enclosed by the same fence type as Pier 62 and also has the same turnstiles (bikers are prohibited). The park hasn't officially opened yet, but it's already causing controversy since it's not going to be free: using the park will cost $50/year pass + entry fee. Our friends over at KuatoLives2084 have been keeping up with the situation if you want more info.

Slideshow - New Astoria Skatepark In Queens (2010)

We had a chance to skate the new Astoria skatepark in Queens yesterday so we shot a few photos for you. The park is not officially open but it is skateable depending on the presence of construction workers (Eby from Naysayer recommends going after 4pm or on Weekends). Currently the inside of the park is finished but the outside area is still fenced up.

Getting there is pretty simple; if you drive out, there's a big parking lot and if you're travelling by Subway (N or Q to Astoria Blvd.) the skate (towards the bridge) is pretty simple and mostly down hill. Here's a Google Maps link.

The design of the park (by Steve Rodriguez) is amazing... every ledge for the most part has metal edges, the transition of the quarter pipes is perfect, ledges and banks vary in sizes so you can go big or mellow (or both), good amount of flat ground so each spot is pretty spread out. Everyone we spoke to loved it!

Park rules have not yet officially been announced so keep an eye on our Facebook or Twitter for updates.

The Mayor of New York Skateboarding is a Dad! (2010)

Congratulations to Steve Rodriguez and his wife Hiroko on having a baby boy yesterday. We wish them the best on their new adventure as parents!

Seagle Skateboards - New Site (2010)

Looks like Seagle skateboards (perfect name for a Long Island company) has redesigned their site. Check it out when you get a chance... especially the video section which contains two promos.

Autumn Bowl Update (2010)

Dave is going to make a decision with the keyholders by the end of this week. The rent has been jacked up and nobody has expressed interest to purchase/save the bowl. They're either going to fix up the bowl this weekend and keep it open/paid for one last month -OR- shut the bowl down for good. All depends if the keyholders are willing to pay September's rent.

If you know anyone or any companies that may be interested in purchasing the bowl... please act now OR THE AUTUMN BOWL WILL BE GONE FOREVER.

Vans Leases 15,000 Square Feet in Greenpoint (2010)

Racked (via Brooklyn Eagle) reports that Vans has leased property at 25 Franklin Street in Greenpoint with plans to turn it into a private venue for promotional and marketing events. The property is about 15,000 square feet, column free, has 16' ceilings and includes 4,500 square feet of outdoor space. According to the article, Vans plan to build an indoor park but unfortunately it's for private functions only.

We haven't heard anything official yet from Vans, but if this is true, we would like to mention that Autumn has a bowl FOR SALE sitting just around the corner!

New York's latest company "Music Skateboards" has been born out of Staten Island. Their site isn't up yet but keep an eye out for them in your local shops.

Introducing New Breed Skateboards by Rob Campbell (2010)

Rob Campbell is dropping a new board company named New Breed. Boards & wheels should be available in shops soon so keep an eye out. We wish Rob luck with the company!

We Made The News... The Skateboard Mag News! (2010)

We were so psyched to see NYSkateboarding.com mentioned in the News section of The Skateboard Mag's latest issue (#77). Page 46's news covers the new Bronx park and recaps our Best Line In New York contest. Thanks to our good friends over at Skatedaily.net & The Skateboard Mag for the exposure!
