Chelsea Piers - First Day at Pier 62 Skatepark (2010)
Chelsea Piers skatepark at Pier 62 officially opened to the public yesterday. Time Out New York & the Andy Kessler Foundation posted some pics from the ceremony and ESPN posted some flipcam footage. We also shot some photos (slideshow above) and put together this panoramic so you can see the full layout. Prizefighter Facebooked some of the official rules. We spoke to the park police and they confirmed that helmets are mandatory but it's up to the skaters to enforce the rules and if skaters don't enforce the rules than they will appoint someone who will. So grab your helmet, head over to the new park and have some fun!

Pier 62 Skatepark - Opening May 17th (2010)
It was confirmed yesterday (by Hudson River Park Trust & Open Road) that the opening ceremony for Pier 62 skatepark will be held Monday, May 17th 2010 at 10:00 AM. The park will open to the public immediately following the conclusion of the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.
The park was designed by SITE Design Group, is 15,000 sq. ft, has lights, is free and requires safety gear. That's all we could find for now but make sure to follow the Official New York or Skaters for Public Skateparks forums for more info.
